Is Facebook advertising right for my business?
Updated: Jul 8
As small business owners, you’re wearing many different hats on a daily basis. When it comes to growing your business, you might have gotten your feet wet with a few standard methods like asking past or current customers for referrals, keeping your social media pages active, posting in Facebook groups, possibly establishing some partnerships, and maybe a little SEO for your website. Some of it might be working for you, but if you’re a savvy business owner, you should always be on the lookout for additional -- and probably more predictable or consistent -- forms of lead generation that can take your business even further than where it is today. I’m going to share with you one very beneficial source of lead generation that you need to start using: Facebook advertising.
Maybe you’re thinking this platform only works for some businesses. You might be thinking, after all, advertising is expensive, my target audience isn’t there, and it’s too hard to understand. Wrong! See...
The cost of advertising is worth it
It’s just like the saying: you have to spend money to make money. Even though advertising requires somewhat of an investment, it doesn’t need to break the bank. If you spend a little time learning a few basic tactics on how to use FB ads effectively, you won’t waste money and you’ll be able to bring in some incredible traffic to your business.
For example, let’s say you invest $75 in a small advertising campaign for bringing in leads (for sales or your services). That $75 in Facebook advertising brings in 15 leads to you. Depending on your offer and your sales process -- these numbers are different for everyone -- you end up converting 4 of those leads into sales. Let’s say 1 sale is $200 initially but the lifetime value of each customer is well over $1200. Then that’s a big win, huh? Spending $75 and making $800 (or $4800 over time). Plus, now you have the email addresses of the 11 other leads who didn’t convert to a sale immediately. You can begin an email campaign to warm up those leads and eventually convert more of them into sales.
Your audience is on Facebook and advertising will work for your business
Over 1.7 Million people are on Facebook today and, let’s be honest, you probably only know 1 or 2 people in your social circle who aren’t. That 1.7 Million includes other business owners, moms, brides, executives, fashionistas, creatives, couples that need financial solutions, homebuyers, fitness enthusiasts….the list goes on. Now, take a second to think about your target audience. Do you think they’re on Facebook too? I guarantee it! But here’s the thing: it’s not whether or not your target audience is on Facebook. What you need to worry about is HOW you can target them on Facebook.
On Google, people are searching for specific items/services and thus when using Google Adwords, your ad is put in front of people actively searching for that item or service. Adwords is great for that reason but unfortunately is not so attainable for many small businesses and entrepreneurs. The 2 major downfalls of running Google ads is that it’s a lot more expensive than Facebook ads and, as a marketing expert, I can tell you this: it isn’t as easy to use!
With Facebook advertising, on the other hand, your ads are being shown in front of your target audience whether or not they’re actively searching for your specific item or service you’re selling. And that’s OK! Why? Because you’ll just need to create a strategy for how you’re going to grab their attention in their news feed and how you’re going to warm them up.
